Shankweiler Design

Services

Leading the way in marine design.

Shankweiler Design offers an exclusive design and project management service. From the initial concept drawings to ensuring the build meets and follows the design & construction brief.  Whatever your project is we can add value with engineering, electrical & structural design services.

Shankweiler Design also offers custom robust and reliable steering design work and solutions using innovative Jefa Steering products to provide you with a wide range of steering possibilities and solutions that includes drive units, hydraulic pedestals, rack & pinion systems, steering wheels, wire systems, and transmission systems products, including direct drives, tiller levers, linear drive units, sprocket drives, and transmission drive units.

We also can provide a full range of modern compact autopilot drives autopilot drive units with a well-deserved reputation as the most advanced, light running, and power economic autopilot drives in the world.

Our team will work close with you to see that the project is going forward and that your requests will be met with professional expert advice and innovative solutions.

STAGE 1-  Our design team will begin with our client to prepare an exterior design that will be met with good
fundamental elements that are necessary for a good design and key considerations to ensure the vessel
meets safety and environmental requirements as well as other considerations.

STAGE 2:  Our design team now will understand how the yacht will be used and have a
good understanding of the clients’ requests in the layout. The General
Arrangement layout can now be drawn up and will maximize the available
space onboard while considering efficiency.

STAGE 3:  Technical CAD drawings will now be produced and used to start the accurate
visualization of the project. The drawings will be detailed and to size which
will end up being used for the next stages of the design process to bring the
clients dream alive.. These drawings will ensure that all parties have a good
understanding of the project and minimize any miscommunication.

STAGE 4:  Now we are getting down to the calculations to make sure the vessel will be sea worthy for the operating area you will be in and comply with all U.S. & international regulations to include environmental.

STAGE 5:  Computer Aided Design (CAD) software enables our Naval Architects to
work efficiently and quickly, cutting production costs and, ultimately,
complete projects more quickly and allow our clients to visualize the reality of
their yacht coming alive.  These drawings will include the rudder, steering system, propulsion, engine support & systems, piping systems, electrical systems, water tight compartments, collision bulkheads, sound dampening & climent insulation, deck systems, operators station, anchoring systems, doors & windows.

STAGE 6:  This detailed electrical system is made up of several groups.

1. DC Storage and Control 12 and 24 volt systems; main panels, sub panels, controllers, monitors, house batteries, breakers, fuses, switches, bus bars, wire runs, connectors, mountings and enclosures

2. DC Charging – Main Generators, inverter/chargers, alternators, charge controllers, battery isolators, starting batteries, engine motor starter/display panels, fuses, switches, wire runs, connectors and mountings

3. DC Charging – Auxiliary Solar panels, wind/hydro generators, charge controllers, fuses, breakers, wire runs, connectors and mountings

4. DC Distribution Lights, outlets, fans, pumps, refrigeration, communications, navigation, networks, entertainment, galley equipment, windless, winches, fuses, breakers, wire runs, connectors, mountings

5. AC Source and Control 120 and 240 volt, 30 and 50 amp service; main panels, shore power, generators, inverter/chargers, transformers, isolators, controllers, breakers, disconnects, wire runs, connectors, mountings and enclosures

6. AC Distribution Inverter panel, outlets, appliances, HW heaters, induction cooking, refrigeration equipment, water makers, wire runs, connectors and mountings

7. Communication, Navigation and Networks VHF, AIS, radar, autopilots, chart plotters, mobile map devices, navigation instruments, NMEA networks, business networks and file storage devices

8. Bonding and Cathodic Protection Galvanic and stray-current corrosion protection, bonding circuits, immersed sacrificial anodes, through hull connections, tanks bonding and current monitoring devices

STAGE 7:  We provide low voltage security recorders and cameras. The solutions can be integrated virtually into any type of difficult environment. Low power off the grid capable green power through solar and lithium-based storage.  This will allow you to see all degrees of areas of your vessel on a display either at the helm or at any part internally of the vessel along with an app for either Android or iPhone. Engine room monitoring to outside situational awareness even at 30x zoom at all times that can be accessed remotely as well. The system is tailored to your needs!

STAGE 8:  This stage really brings the project to life.  We literally will make your boat look real to give you a exact replica.  This stage is important so you can see exactly what you are getting and now can play with what colors you may want for a paint job and pick the upholstery as well.  This will allow you to pick the colors inside your boat as well.

STAGE 9:  The design phase of the yacht is now with the builder and requires the
Shankweiler design team and the builder to see the project through the
completion of the build. We ensure that the project is on point at each stage
of the build and provide the guidance needed to avoid any costly mistakes.
